Majorca’s Sierra de Tramuntana Beaches

Calobra Sa is one of the most visited places from the Island of Majorca. Thanks to the beauty of its landscape, its popularity was high since the beginning of tourism on this island. The beach is located in the heart of Sierra de Tramuntana and it is reachable by car from a narrow road. Soller and Lluc are the closest settlements to Calobra Sa. The road is descending towards the sea and it is formed of incredible successions of curves.

The first facility situated at the end of the narrow road is a parking lot. This is because few people choose to walk to this beach. Also, few tourists choose boat rides from Soller to the beach. Calobra Sa is quite rocky and it has boulders on its shore. It is connected to another small portion of pebble beach where a choral concert is held once per year in July.

Cala Tuent is another beach connected to Calobra Sa. This beach is also spectacularly beautiful mainly because of its location at the foot of the mountains. It is surrounded by a thick pine forest and by some summer houses built back in the sixties. Its seabed is also rocky and it is larger in comparison with Calobra Sa.

If your villas in Majorca for rent is next to these beaches, do not hesitate to plan a daytrip and visit them.

Daytrip to Soller in Majorca

A daytrip with a very old train to a town hidden in the mountains is just one of the activities that start from Palma. The best way to visit the town of Soller from Palma de Majorca is to choose Ferrocarril de Soller. There is a special, ancient train that carries the tourists for 27 kilometers (16 miles) to Soller.

The train station from which you must take de ancient train is an old building, with a singe line railway, an old clock, a bell and a banner that informs you when was this ancient train electrified, namely in 1929. The train’s wagons are made of wood and the benches have backrests that fold. You can easily move them so that four people can sit face to face or you can simply sit in the direction the train is moving.

The town of Soller is located in the northern Majorca, so in order to get there, the train crosses the Sierra de Tramontana Mountains. On your way to Soller you will see olive grooves, you will go through a series of tunnels and you will see the town from far. The town is fairly easy to recognize because it is located in a kind of bucket. It is surrounded by mountains from 3 sides. Soller is quite large, busy and interesting. In Placa de La Constitucio, the Town Hall and the Cathedral are situated side by side. Only the tram line separates them. The houses are built on slopes, overlooking the boats and yachts docked in the harbor. Port of Soller is worthy of a visit too.

If this sounds like your kind of place then check out  http://rentin-majorca.com to book your accommodation and visit this beautiful town on your next holiday abroad.

Life behind Tourism in Majorca

The Balearic Archipelago is located in eastern Spain, in the basin of the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of 11 small islands and 4 larger islands, namely Majorca, Menorca, Formentera and Ibiza. The capital city is located on the largest island, Majorca and it is called Palma. The number of inhabitants from all the islands is around 750 thousand people. The groups of islands are all part of Spain and attract tourists because of its natural beauty, climate and variety.

Majorca is considered a top choice among its other neighbor islands. Its valleys are full of orange groves, almost trees and vineries, as well as olive trees and vegetables. Much of the island is occupied by pastures where numerous sheep and cows spend their days to eat. The numerous cultures that inhabited this island over time left deep marks. Specific elements attributed to different cultures are noticeable in every village and larger settlements from Majorca. Palma de Majorca is dominated by two Old Catholic churches and by a fascist monastery.

Besides tourism, the Majorcan industry is based on the manufacture of shoes and pottery. The handicrafts are very successful among the tourists, but the locals do not earn a lot of money out of selling them. Fishing and agriculture are still practiced, but the locals do not actually need to practice them in order to make a living. The touristic development has created thousands of jobs for the islanders and some of them have transformed their own villas in Majorca into pensions and hostels.

Visit Majorca’s Unique Castle

History lovers who choose to spend their vacation on the Majorcan Island cannot avoid Palma de Majorca. It is rich in historical edifices and much more. Probably the most suggestive landmark that can be noticed even before entering the city is the Bellver Castle.

The Bellver Castle is unique for Spain and only a few other castles from Europe can match its style. It is one of the few European circular castles. King Jaume II ingeniously merged the defensive style with the one of a residential structure. His plan was put into practice starting with the year 1300. Its circular plan is completed by 3 semi-circular towers. An extra tower has been added near the completed construction. It stands out because it is taller than the other 3 towers. It took 10 years for this castle’s construction to be completed.

Built on 2 levels, the Bellver Castle houses the Museum of Palma de Majorca. In our days, you can admire multiple collections that include interesting exhibits. Most of them are significant for Majorca’s past. If you RentIn Majorca then the tour starts from the castle’s basement, where you can experience a trip in the history of Palma. From the Bronze Age, until our days, these exhibits are very evocative for the past times. On the first floor, a collection of classical sculptures can distract your attention from everything else. The Jovellanos Room, as well as the Throne Room inspires the greatness of the leaders who once lived there. The Saint Marcu Chapel is nice to look at too.

Majorca - Metropolitan Influences or the Other Way Around

Palma de Majorca is a beloved European destination from the Island of Majorca. As a tourist, you can manage to find certain landmarks with the help of a map and if you know at least one of the two languages spoken in Spain, which are Spanish and English. The capital of Majorca is a metropolitan zone, so you might have to ask for directions from time to time. Therefore, the conversational guides and the travel maps can really come in hand when you are looking for something specific that is not very popular. Palma de Majorca is pleasant to visit from May to late autumn months. In fact, the entire Island of Majorca is gifted with this enjoyable climate. However, high season usually means high prices, so if your budget is limited, then try to
choose a spring or an autumn month for your trip.

Majorca was under Roman influence for quite some time and then the Mussulmen were in control. So, you will not really find a pure architectural style in this capital city or throughout the island. The old quarter is, of course, where the conglomeration of monuments is situated. The Majorcan Cathedral is an objective hard to miss from your apartments in Majorca and hard to pass by without a short visit. The period of Islamic oppression is highlighted by the Arab Baths and the Bellver Castle.

The busiest areas from this Majorcan metropolitan city are the beached and the port. Most of the fun activities for nights and evenings are centered there.

Celebrate from March to August throughout Majorca

March and April are dedicated to the events organized before Easter. In Palma de Majorca, during the first Sunday after Easter the locals celebrate Domingo Del Angel. This day is extremely important for the Christian locals. They dress up like giants and go to a walk from the City Hall to the Bellver Castle in order to attend a special religious service. After the ceremony, the locals eat at an improvised table where they share food and listen to good music.

In a smaller town called Marratxi, during March the islanders organize a celebration named Fira Del Fang. This consists mostly of ceramics exhibitions. For 3 days, the best craftsmen exhibit their best work. Every item is made manually.

In June, Palma de Majorca marks the beginning of summer in a special manner. Nit de Foc is an annually event that consists of a wonderful spectacle of fireworks.

Sant Augusti is celebrated in August, in the capital city of Majorca but in other smaller settlements as well. This event is enjoyable for the tourists because it presents Cavallets dances. Children wear costumes made of cardboard that embody horses and are chased by adults, who wear costumes that embody giants. The dances are accompanied by bagpipes, flutes and drums music.

During the same month, before the Sant Bernard day, the locals celebrate the Sant Bernard pilgrimage. They start from Placa de Cort and go towards the monastery. Numerous people staying in villas in Majorca to rent participate in this pilgrimage, which is a pleasant thanks to the musicians that sing and walk along.
